Every year the city of Sanremo, Italy, is hosting probably the biggest music event in the country and one of the biggest worldwide, namely il Festival della Canzone Italiana di Sanremo. The 2010 edition of the show had, among the international special guests, German band Tokio Hotel, burlesque diva Dita Von Teese and diva-for-no-reason Jennifer Lopez.
The latter’s performance was, well… Where to start? Where to start? The choreography was pretty much the same as in most of her videos. Check out “My Love Don’t Cost a Thing” or “Get Right” or “Do It Well” or “Play” and you’ll see what I mean. Her new song, “What Is Love?” was pretty ok. It’s probably just me but I found the intro rather similar to a part of Nelly Furtado’s “All Good Things (Come to an End).” I posted the video below so you can tell me what you think about it. Scroll to about 1.58.
As for Mrs. Lopez’s second appearance, man… Does singing a few lyrics and a couple of yeahs and ohs really qualify as singing? I mean, the festival organizers paid her 300,000 Euros to be there, according to the Italian online newspaper La Stampa. I guess they should have also paid her to perform. I miss the JLo from back in the day when she used to rock the stage. Of course, back then she was younger, hotter and not a mom. I suppose she has other priorities now, so we’ll give her a break.
Below you have two videos with her performances at Sanremo and Nelly Furtado’s, as I promised. You do the judging. Photo courtesy of Lapresse, via Corriere della sera.
