Michael Jackson’s Red 'Thriller' Jacket to Be Auctioned for $400,000

b_0_75_16777215_00_images_michael-jackson.jpgThere’s a lot about Michael Jackson that no one will ever be able to forget – well, maybe everything about him – but one thing that anyone, regardless of how old or young they are, can recognize in an instant is the red jacket that the music icon wore in his Thriller music video. And now it can be yours, if you can fork out $400k.

Julien’s Auctions is holding a Music Icons auction later this month where a huge collection of music memorabilia belonging to the greatest artists of all time will be sold to the highest bidder. Among the big names on the list, which covers rock-n-roll, Motown, jazz, country, pop and various other genres, you’ll find Michael Jackson, The Beatles, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Kurt Cobain, Madonna, Frank Sinatra, Ozzy Osbourne, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, The Ramones, Elvis Presley, but also younger stars the likes of Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga.

The Michael Jackson section has on display a bunch of items that belonged to the singer, including the wig he wore in the This Is It documentary, which is estimated to go for $2,000-$4,000, and the famous black glove he wore at the 1984 American Music Awards, which will probably be sold for $20,000-$30,000. However, the most important item of the entire sale is the famous red jacket Jackson wore in his iconic Thriller music video, and which is said to be going for a whopping $200,000 though organizers are pretty sure the price will reach $400,000 easily.

The jacket, which also comes with an autograph on its left sleeve, had such an impact when Jackson’s short film video was released that the singer kept wearing the same model every time he performed Thriller onstage for the duration of his career.

For those interested in the auction, to be held on June 25 and 26, you can find all the info you need on location, bidding and schedule on Julien’s Auctions’ official website. (Photo via B at MJ)
